Hey people,

Well I’ve got this game, I bought the 'Game of the Year Edition' was going cheap and I had heard good things about it so I thought why not smile.gif.

Basically I’ve been looking around for mods to install before I really get into the game, I don’t want to play the game them find out there’s loads of good mods that change the game and everything I’ve learnt becomes obsolete. And there are just so many I’m still in awe reading about them all!

So if anyone would be kind enough to recommend and link to (and link to any required files) some good base mods, nothing to radical, just ones that improve gameplay, add players, and reasonable weapons and locations and maybe some extra features. (i.e. not a uber ultra mega powerful weapon of god which can be found laying on the floor)

Thanks a lot to anyone that is kind enough to reply smile.gif

PS: I know am being a bit cheeky but this could also help confused newbies in the future)

The things you learn by playing it origin never become obsolete!
Second you should play the game first without mods to really appreciate them later!

But if you really wanna use some now i´ll recommend graphic replacers!

Morrowind Mythic Mods

Probably one of the best player made sites for mods. I'm not including database sites like the Summits when I say that. It has themed mods for your specific character, and Tele's List o Mods has almost all the "must have" mods.

I'd get the following:

Better Heads
Better Bodies
Vibrant Morrowind
Vibrant Skies
Giants
The Wilderness Mod
Wilderness Sounds
Everything done by :
Canadian Ice
Jeremy McGuinn
Phijama
Vagabond Angel
Korana
Qarl

That should give you a good start

Well I advise you first to play Morrowind without mods, even then it's still beautiful and if you're stubborn (just teasin') I'd suggest the Better Bodies mod by (Psychodog studios and I'd suggest Morrowind Comes Alive (I think it can be found on Summit it adds more NPC's and hireable people but I'm not sure about the latter one and the NPC's Face replacer by Astarsis or someone else.

And if you know a little about the Twin Lamps, I'd suggest Juniper's and Nevena's Twin Lamps, it's really good and not to uber with rewards and stuff

And to answer your next question, you should run a search on each of those items on the forums first, then look on Tele's List for links to other downloads. Then, for any you STILL can't find, try Vagabond's Armory

25 Mods I Wouldn’t Want to Play Without:

1. Abu Manor – It’s not the biggest, but it’s plenty nice.
2. All Classes – More classes to choose from. Simple, but nice.
3. Amulets and Rings – New amulets and rings, new and improved textures.
4. Balmora Expansion – Balmora goes “uber”. Big time.
5. Better Bodies – Essential, IMO.
6. Better Books – Vastly better looking in-game books.
7. Birthsigns Expansion Pack – Dozens of new, balanced Birthsigns.
8. Changing Faces Replacer – Vastly better looking NPC’s. Another “essential”.
9. Creatures – More creatures to vanquish.
10. Illuminated Windows – Windows that light up at night.
11. K Potion Upgrade – Vastly improved looking in-game potion bottles.
12. K Scroll Upgrade – Vastly improved looking in-game scrolls.
13. Key Replacer – Texture replacer for in-game keys.
14. KP Visual Packs v2.11 & v2.2 – My preferred “global” texture replacer.
15. Moons Soulgems – Vastly better looking soul gems.
16. More Trees and Foliage – Just what it says, more trees, more foliage!
17. Multi-Mark – A little cheesy, but oh so convenient. Up to 12 M&R points.
18. Persuasion Response Expansion – Expanded responses to Taunts, Bribes, etc.
19. Plain Paper Fix
20. Quick Character Generation – Whips you through building your new PC.
21. Real Signposts – Signposts in English.
22. Reflective Gold – Retextured gold coins.
23. Tombs Expanded – Tombs are now HUGE, imposing and very deadly.
24. Unofficial Morrowind Patch – Fixes hundreds of minor in-game boo-boos.
25. Visual Pack XT – Works with the KP Visual Packs.

Real signposts, make newbie life easier without unbalancing anything.
patch6, how need bugs?
DB_Attack_Mod_Add-On_v2, if you got Tribunal.

When you played some add Better Bodies, Better Heads, TLM_The Lighting Mod with or without the sneak tweak and Ices Robe Replacer.

Cheers! Oom

I think you should play the game without mods first, beat it once, then install some mods.

Good advice. Unfortunately, VA's Armory appears to still be under re-construction. I agree with Ninja Monkey in that I'm not sure I could have appreciated the wonderful mods available if I had never experienced vanilla morrowind.

well... yes, as far as quests and houses are concerned, maybe even as far as additional races and clothing mods
but i think playing the game with BB and some face packs installed from the very beginning isn't going to interfere with anything. and playing with a companion mod, or something like cm partners might actually be helpful to the first-time player.
a friend of mine recently began playing for the first time and i downloaded a small selection of mods, tailored to her tastes.
personally, i wouldn't ever play without BB - to anyone out there new to the game, download it. you'll be thankful.

that is all

While vanilla MW is great there are still lots of bugs and fixes needed. A quick visit over to (shameless plug) Empirical Morrowind will set you on the right path for those, plus you find a few (*cough, cough*) mods listed there as well. rolleyes.gif One of the head replacer mods is a must. Graphics replacers is a matter of taste. Would recommended playing the game from the start with Combat Enhanced and its associate mods. And I'd also add in all the Less Generic NPC Project's mods as well. Heck, you're allow 255 mods so why not fill up the "boat: biggrin.gif

Baphomet list has inspired me to try my hand at my own '25 Favorites'. These mods represent my 'base game' - the white canvas upon which I add the 200 other 'colors' that make up a new game. Each game I play is different, each game starts with a unique mod lineup designed to support the character I'm playing. But these 25 rarely change.

1. QuickChar (Bink) Essential for anyone who *ahem* starts many characters.
2. Better Bodies (PsychoDog) Essential, period.
3. Changing Faces (Leeloo) The best face replacer out there.
4. Visual Pack XT (Qarl) I'm a recent convert to this mod. Until Vibrant MW 3.0 comes out, that is.
5. Window Lights (Mod Man) Stunning night-time city vistas.
6. More Trees and Foliage (Skyfire76) I use Rahuu's textures with this. The Ascadian Isles are lovely.
7. Fire Hurt (Cisco) Damage from fire: should've been in the original game.
8. Fatigue Effects (Turjon) Another 'should've been'...
9. Hunt Cliff Racers to Extinction (Jaxalot) My new favorite mod.
10. Creatures 3.0 (PirateLord) One of the best and newest creature mods around.
11. Giants Ultimate (PumaMan) For nocturnal creatures. I deleted Night Sprites and lvl 1 Nix-Hounds.
12. Where Are All Birds Going (abot) This will have you staring at the sky in wonder..
13. Cait's Critters Unleashed (Cait-Hoghead) Seeing a cow in the water near Seyda Neen never gets old.
14. Fireflies (Calishan) Too beautiful not to have in every game.
15. Children of Morrowind (Emma) Wooden sword fights, bloody noses, swingsets...
16. Suran Extended (princess_stomper) The most beautiful night-time sight you will ever see.
17. Walled City of Balmora-Callenwald (Hargreth-theoldman) A combo mod I made to combine two of my fav Balmora mods.
18. Redesigned Vivec-Vivec Expanded (PirateLord-Hoghead) Another combination of my two favorite Vivec mods.
19. Suran Archery Tradehouse (Wizbang) Includes new arrows, new armor, a spiffy shop and, best of all, Zyndaar's bows.
20. Dwemer Sky Glider (Mykul) For three years I have never started a game without this mod.
21. Weapon Compilation Mod (Farrp) Adds hundreds of the best modder-made weapons to leveled lists and NPCs.
22. Adul's Arsenal My favorite collection of weapons.
23. Abu's Retreat (Phoebe) My all-time favorite house mod
24. Ald-Vendras Complete (Centurion) Best landmass mod, ever.
25. White Wolf of LoKKen Mountain (Emma) Best quest mod. Ever.

Okay, Well thanks for all the help guys, I started out with just Better Bodies, The Apartment & Thief Companion Constance.

Now that I have a feel for the game I think I might add a few more mods. And by the way, some of you have mentioned graphics replacers? what are these. Also do they slow the game down, as even tho I have a AMD 1800+, 512DDR RAM & a nVidia Geforce 5200 (128mg) the game is still really choppy, I even put the resolution down to 800x600 which helped slightly.

Thanks again people.

EDIT: Wow thanks _Tarnsman_ Empirical Morrowind looks really good, I like the idea of some of the business sim mods espechialy The Farmer Mod v3.2c. Will have to test some of these out smile.gif
